Broken Headphones: Don't Let Them Cost You an Arm and a Leg

'Every day I wake up and ask myself "is this the day my headphones are going to break?"'

After coming across a facebook group called 'I hate broken headphones', I decided to see what could be done to solve the problem of broken headphones without having to part with money for a new pair.

I did some research and discovered that HMV have a way to prevent spending sometimes hundreds of pounds a year to replace broken headphones. They don't openly advertise the service; you have to ask for it, but you can get your headphones guaranteed for a couple of pounds. The price depends on that of the headphones, but to give you an example, a £14-£15 pair can be guaranteed for £1.99 for the year. This means that if your headphones break during that time you can get another pair as a replacement for free.

This guarantee means effectively that you are only paying £1.99 for your second pair when, inevitably, your headphones break. You can then place the guarantee on that set of headphones too and effectively never pay more than the price of the guarantee for your headphones! It's that simple. And if the headphones break within one month you keep the guarantee, meaning your next pair can be considered totally free. It even covers accidental damage.

It should be noted that this service is not just for headphones; it covers a wide range of items, but if your headphones break a lot it may well be worth considering for them especially.

Well, that's all I really wanted to tell you. I hope you found it useful.

Attack on manga scanulation sites

It may or may not be known to you that many of my favourite Manga sites are being shut down due to the new lobbying coalition by certain corporations.

“The effort brings together the 36 member Japanese Digital Comic Association—which includes such major Japanese houses as Kodansha, Shogakukan and Shueisha—as well as manga publisher Square Enix, the Tuttle-Mori Agency and U.S.-based manga publishers Vertical Inc, Viz Media, Tokyopop and Yen Press, the manga/graphic novel imprint of the Hachette Book Group.
A spokesperson for the coalition said the effort shows that Japanese publishers—who license the majority of manga sold in the U.S.—are taking an aggressive interest in combating manga piracy outside of Japan as well as inside the country”

I think it's funny to revert to supply and demand analysis; there is a HUGE demand for manga scans and anime and a very low supply, the black market has appeared because people all over the WORLD want to read manga not just in American and Japan, and we don’t just want to read it, we want to read it as fast as possible to when it comes out in Japan, if possible the same day.

American licensed copies are always watered down and “bastardized”, in some cases ruining the feel of the manga as a whole.

I won’t go into this in much detail because I have essay to write, but now I will need to find new ways to get the manga I want.

Here is one of my main issues with the attack on manga scanulation sites.

Variety is not the only issue. American publishers will tweak the content to make it "appropriate" and to "appeal" to an American reader, thus bastardizing the original content and culture of Japan to make it more "acceptable". I am totally willing to buy simultaneous releases of weekly/monthly manga and anime as long as they have their original pictures and are translated such that a footnote can be added to inform the reader of Japanese turns-of-phrase. I will NOT buy any content that has been altered by the American publisher just because it MAY contain content that could be seen as "offensive" to an American reader.

It sickens me to see the manga companies acting just as stupidly as the movie companies. Next they will bring out 3D comics and make me wear silly glasses to read.

MY solution: one site, all the manga comes out ON TIME, same day translated and free. With adverts that supply the comics author with revenue based on how many people read their manga. SIMPLE AS THAT.

So, what's your opinion?

FTSE hates you

Just now, in the space of 20 minutes, I have lost 187 pounds.

For the first time I had implemented a strategy and it was working slow but, sure enough, money was flowing in (scalping).

Unfortunately, the rule of limiting your losses when you do make a mistake was ignored and I quickly lost all my profit …and then a nightmare began. The spread betting program froze. This had never happened to me before and it was a very, very big shock. Needless to say, after resetting my computer I had lost more then just my profit. 185 pounds gone like that. To my horror, upon trying to close the position the program had reset the bet so I didn’t close in time costing me an extra 3 pounds in commission.

Who is to blame? Me. Firstly for having a crappy computer, secondly for not having a automatic stop loss and thirdly for not having the discipline to follow the plan.

Lesson learned, tears wiped, we will try again tomorrow.

Face Kicking stuff

The day the market kicked me in the face

Yesterday was not a good day. It started with a nice inflow of cash; not lots and lots of money, only 21 pounds, but it was with a lot of conservative day trading and I was very, very happy.

Then it happened. I WANT THIS TO BE A WARNING to stay disciplined. I heard the voice (you know the voice) “you can bet more… this is easy…do it” I said “no”, of course, as any gentleman knows how to ignore temptation.

5 minutes later and I'm on £5 pounds per point and it was good. It felt amazing. I made £100 pounds in exactly 20 minutes.

Then I was punched in the face, the trade screen went from 5432/5434 (example) to N/A/N/A (O.o) in other words I couldn’t see what was about to happen.

So 3 minutes and £350 pounds later, I was feeling very hurt.

When we go short :) WE sing your demise :) when we go long we send you flowers

As an amateur trader, it is always good to make profit. However, you are still very subject to the emotions that test your common sense and judgement.

I find my emotions play with me and when I go short I try to send negative imaginary waves to the market images of exploding oil rigs and erupting volcanoes. Conversely, if I’m bullish I get pictures of people singing and holding hands and I feel like a hippie and sending flowers to all the banks.

How long will it take for me to become an emotionless money making machine?

Recently the FTSE has been doing well for me. It got me to thinking; what if? what if ?what if? What if I was taught this when I was younger, say 6 or 8 years old? I mean, how old do you really need to be to understand the concepts of an option or a future?

I think that instead sending your child to learn violin, they could learn to play the most beautiful instrument of all, the market.

Student Storage Sorcery

Introduction to Storage Sorcery:

We have found a nifty way to cut down the costs of storage. Necessity is the mother of invention, and I came up with the idea because I couldn’t afford to store my belongings at the local storage facility, so decided to see if there was a cheaper option.

We store a variety of items, from the very small, to larger stuff like computers and suitacses. Prices range from £3.50 for small single items to 30 pounds a month for larger loads. We provide easy, inexpensive delivery within the Coventry city area.

How it works:

You call me or text me, tell me where you live and I will organise a meeting, during which you show me what you need stored and I will give you a quote for the price. Depending how far you are away from the storage house delivery can be from as little as £6 -£20 pounds.
